Kelley’s Sebago Diner – Windham, Maine

Background

We were heading back from a visit to Bridgton along Route 302 and thought we’d stop for brunch. Kelley’s Sebago Diner was a perfect place to stop. An easy turn into and ample parking. Kelley’s is open seven days a week, 7 am to 2 pm every day except Sunday when they close a 1 pm.

Arrival

We arrived a little after noon and were seated quickly. We opted for the “sunroom” and found it cheerful on a beautiful summer day.

Ordering

With a name like “Kelley’s,” I figured that the Corned Beef Hash and eggs would be a safe bet to be great. Then I saw the “specials” menu and ordered a Chorizo Hash Omelet instead. My wife was in the mood for a BLT with the bacon well-done/crispy, and she thought she’d try onion rings. (We are still on the search for the world’s best onion rings .) Rather than order extra bacon on the sandwich, she ordered an extra side of bacon, which is usually more economical. 

Food

The BLT was amazing. It was thick-cut bacon, well done as she asked, and plenty of it. She didn’t need to add any from the side order to make it an excellent sandwich. The tomatoes were fresh and tasted like they were locally grown, and the bread was hearty and fresh. Pretty purple orchids adorned the plate for a pleasing splash of color. 
My Chorizo Omelet was one of the best omelets I’ve had in years. The chorizo was made in-house and wasn’t greasy or overly spiced. It was delicious. The eggs were like I’d cook them if I were cooking
them myself. The portions were generous, and I was able to take about half of the food home for a great breakfast the next day. 
The table has jelly and butter, in case you want to add either to the scrumptious toast that came buttered.
The only negative thing was the onion rings. They were overcooked and very greasy because the cooking oil wasn’t hot enough.

Rating: 4.2

Ambiance: 4 (Clean and open, suitable for conversations.)
Food: 4 (Great except for the onion rings.) 
Service: 5 (Our server—Brittani—was friendly and attentive.)
Price: 4 (Brunch was under $15 each, not including drinks)
Value: 4 (Good food, excellent service, reasonable price.)

Conclusion

We’ll definitely keep it on our list of places for brunch in the Windham area.

Restaurant Review – Chef George’s Auto Mile Diner, Saco Maine I’ve found a great little breakfast place in Saco, the Auto Mile Diner. It is small, but the food is excellent, and the staff is always friendly. I’ve been there several times for breakfast and have always found the breakfasts great. I was getting my Jeep serviced across the street and walked over for breakfast. I there are only eight tables, but I was able to find a good seat. Moments after arriving the Owner asked if I’d like coffee. After hearing my reply, a nice cup of coffee was placed in front of me. There is a menu on the table as well as posters on the wall suggesting other items. After several visits, I’ve found the Mexican Omelet is one of my favorites—peppers, onions, cheese, jalapenos, and tomatoes, wrapped in eggs with salsa and sour cream on the side. Bridge Street Cafe - Rockford, MN

While I was in Minnesota my brother suggested we go to breakfast at just about the best breakfast place he had been to lately.  He said it was about ten miles but would be well worth the trip.  So we loaded up our mother and headed to Rockford and the Bridge Street Cafe. The Bridge Street Cafe is a home-town cafe which is open for breakfast, starting at 6:00 AM (7:00 AM Sat & Sun) and open until 2:30 PM (3:00 PM Sat & Sun) and provides a nostalgic trip to a classic all American classic cafe.  Apparently downstairs of a Masonic Lodge the decor is pleasant. We were quickly greeted and asked if we wanted coffee or juice. This is the fourth in my quest for a home meal delivery service. Home Chef is one of the best-known services.  Online With Home Chef, you select a Taste Profile: Calorie-Conscious Meals, Carb-Conscious Meals, or Vegetarian (I picked Carb Conscious). Next, you choose ingredients you would like to avoid. We avoid fish, so we selected that. You can avoid several ingredients, including peanuts, pork, and poultry. Like the other services I’ve tried, you select the number of people being fed, in my case two, then the number of meals per week you want from them (I picked four).
