Tequilera’s Mexican Restaurant – Scarborough, Maine


Tequilera’s Mexican Restaurant (Mexicantina) is the third restaurant to occupy this site at 183 US Route 1 in Scarborough over the past four or five years. I regularly enjoyed The Egg and went to the First Light restaurant that replaced it a few times. This was our second visit to Tequilera’s; the first time was shortly after they opened.

Arrival

We arrived just before noon for lunch and were seated right away. After a few minutes, we asked to be moved as the booth we were sitting at wasn’t nailed down and rocked whenever we moved. Also, the booth seats were extremely low and uncomfortable. There were only two other tables occupied at the time.

Ordering

The waiter took our order, a Chile Relleno and a Quesadilla Grande with Beef. He didn’t write it down. Sure enough, a few minutes later, he came back to ask, “was that chicken or beef?” My wife was happy because she wouldn’t have to return the plate as she did on our first visit.

Food

My Chile Relleno was quite good. More traditional than many I’ve had in other places. My wife’s Quesadilla Grande was horrible. It was one of the toughest, most sinewy pieces of meat she’s ever been served. It was inedible.

Service

Certainly, the server was more interested in people coming in the front door than the people he was already serving. I must mention there was a cashier by the front door who certainly could greet people who arrived. After our lunches were delivered, he never returned to check on us. He also spent time lounging in the booth next to the kitchen.

Rating: 2.5

Ambiance: 2 (broken furniture.)
Food: 2 (one good and one lousy item.) 
Service: 2 (Server was a challenge to flag down for the check.)
Price: 4 (Lunch was under $10 each, not including drinks)

Conclusion

As we left Tequilera’s Mexican Restaurant, we saw three tables besides ours in use, so the place wasn’t busy. This was the second bad experience we had there, so we won’t go back. Hopefully, the next restaurant in this location will be much better.

Restaurant Review – Chef George’s Auto Mile Diner, Saco Maine I’ve found a great little breakfast place in Saco, the Auto Mile Diner. It is small, but the food is excellent, and the staff is always friendly. I’ve been there several times for breakfast and have always found the breakfasts great. I was getting my Jeep serviced across the street and walked over for breakfast. I there are only eight tables, but I was able to find a good seat. Moments after arriving the Owner asked if I’d like coffee. After hearing my reply, a nice cup of coffee was placed in front of me. There is a menu on the table as well as posters on the wall suggesting other items. After several visits, I’ve found the Mexican Omelet is one of my favorites—peppers, onions, cheese, jalapenos, and tomatoes, wrapped in eggs with salsa and sour cream on the side. Bridge Street Cafe - Rockford, MN

While I was in Minnesota my brother suggested we go to breakfast at just about the best breakfast place he had been to lately.  He said it was about ten miles but would be well worth the trip.  So we loaded up our mother and headed to Rockford and the Bridge Street Cafe. The Bridge Street Cafe is a home-town cafe which is open for breakfast, starting at 6:00 AM (7:00 AM Sat & Sun) and open until 2:30 PM (3:00 PM Sat & Sun) and provides a nostalgic trip to a classic all American classic cafe.  Apparently downstairs of a Masonic Lodge the decor is pleasant. We were quickly greeted and asked if we wanted coffee or juice. This is the fourth in my quest for a home meal delivery service. Home Chef is one of the best-known services.  Online With Home Chef, you select a Taste Profile: Calorie-Conscious Meals, Carb-Conscious Meals, or Vegetarian (I picked Carb Conscious). Next, you choose ingredients you would like to avoid. We avoid fish, so we selected that. You can avoid several ingredients, including peanuts, pork, and poultry. Like the other services I’ve tried, you select the number of people being fed, in my case two, then the number of meals per week you want from them (I picked four). It is straightforward to skip a week or two if you wish. Variety They have meal kits, which take a half-hour to 45 minutes to prepare.
